Spectrum School is a private, independent, non-sectarian school serving the Rockford area and surrounding region including Beloit, Janesville, Roscoe, Rockton, Boone County and Dekalb.

Our Mission

“...mindful, self-directed learners for life.”

The purpose of Spectrum School is to provide an educational experience based on the learning theories of Jean Piaget, John Dewey and the multiple intelligences theory of Howard Gardner. Students participate in an integrated fine arts and academic program with a major emphasis on active learning – learning to think, solve problems and rationally assess their acts in school for today, and throughout life. Spectrum School supports the development and implementation of a model for life-long learning which embraces the diversity of the entire community.

Our Purpose

Learning is a life-long process. Learning makes it possible for each person to achieve full potential at every stage in life. The learning styles, personal interests and talents of each individual must be acknowledged, honored, guided and strengthened. Learning happens best when individuals are provided with hands-on experiences which encourage observing, questioning and problem solving. Learning cooperative decision-making and conflict resolution, as well as learning how to learn, are essential for future success.

Our Teachers

Spectrum teaching staff includes education specialists with expertise in learning and child development as well as specialists in foreign language, dance, visual and performing arts.  Our teachers recognize every child learns in a different way and strive to nurture potential in each student. Currently 80% of Spectrum's teaching staff have their bachelor's degree and 30% have completed or are finishing their master's degree.
