Spectrum School’s elementary classes are broken up into Early Elementary, children ages 5 to 7, Middle Elementary, children 7 to 10 and Upper Elementary, children 10 to 12. These classes meet five full days from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm. Children who are ready to enter these classes have demonstrated an interest in the reading and writing process.
Individual class placement depends on language, logical thinking, social, cognitive, and physical development factors. Skill emphases are on learning to read through writing, understanding underlying mathematical concepts and beginning arithmetic computation. The younger groups focus on developing the basic, foundational skills which are built upon as they move through their Elementary years. The pace at which a child moves through Elementary groups is determined by a number of developmental factors such as: overall language and math abilities, social maturity, and readiness to take personal responsibility for one’s own education. Students learn and practice study skills which will be important in future school and life activities. Personalized instruction supplements basic skill development. Emphases are on the comprehension and application of both reading and math. | | Early Elementary Classroom, Ages 5-7Click here for Early Elementary 2010-2011 School Supply List Teachers-Kelly Kerchner and Sue Lindquist Teachers-Laurie Pellant and Gayle Simmonds | | Middle Elementary Classroom, Ages 7-10Click here for Middle Elementary 2010-2011 School Supply List Teachers-Jacque Lind and Beth Baxter Teachers-Sally Wonder and Kristen Petrov Class Notes: Don’t forget to check your child's Homework Poly File.
