Spectrum School’s elementary classes are broken up into Early Elementary, children ages 5 to 7, Middle Elementary, children 7 to 10 and Upper Elementary, children 10 to 12. These classes meet five full days from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm.  Children who are ready to enter these classes have demonstrated an interest in the reading and writing process.

Individual class placement depends on language, logical thinking, social, cognitive, and physical development factors. Skill emphases are on learning to read through writing, understanding underlying mathematical concepts and beginning arithmetic computation. The younger groups focus on developing the basic, foundational skills which are built upon as they move through their Elementary years.

The pace at which a child moves through Elementary groups is determined by a number of developmental factors such as: overall language and math abilities, social maturity, and readiness to take personal responsibility for one’s own education. Students learn and practice study skills which will be important in future school and life activities. Personalized instruction supplements basic skill development. Emphases are on the comprehension and application of both reading and math.

Class Notes:  Don’t forget to check your child's Homework Poly File. Inside the homework file is your child's Planner Calendar.  The Planner should be checked and initialed EVERY EVENING, by the family.  The teachers will check the planners every morning for notes and questions from home.
