Preschool 2016-2017 Supply List
Welcome to Preschool!
Our school's youngest students are creative "doers" and experience a great beginning to their life-long joy of learning at Spectrum. In a typical year, children will experience field trips, reading buddies, interest-based learning, fine and gross motor activities, cooking and much much more.
The Preschool curriculum is child-centered and focuses on social interaction. Academic areas are introduced through large and small group activities based on the children's interests and during "Work Time" (click on www.highscope.org for more info about plan-do-review) Children who demonstrate readiness are encouraged to pursue learning activities through their "work." Teachers plan, question, and process with children in developing a personalized education program appropriate for the child's developmental level.
Experienced early childhood educators look for the teachable moment and support a child's social-emotional and pre-academic development. Families are an integral part of our school, and are included regularly.
Preschool children age 3 at the start of the school year may enroll, and those turning 3 after the start of the year may enroll and begin attending on the first day of the month after they turn three if potty-trained. This level offers three (T,W,TH) or five (M-F) half-day options, with afternoon care flexible. Afternoon calendars are sent home on a monthly basis for families to choose care for their child as needed. .
