Thinking, Creating, Reflecting: Impacting the Future

Letter from the Principal: January 13, 2023

Dear Spectrum Family and Friends,

Thank you for the tremendous turn out and support for our showcase last night. It was great that every Intermediate and Upper student had something to share, and I am so grateful to the teachers and staff for giving the students an opportunity to show their learning. It was wonderful seeing preschoolers and Early students showing their parents and grandparents around the school.

Project-based learning is messy. We learn a lot along the way of where we might have given more structure and support, where students are at with self-direction and follow through, and how we can help them push themselves without giving in to perfectionism that leads to giving up.

Fostering creativity, problem solving, collaboration, planning, and perseverance are all goals to inquiry projects. We did this around content themes last night. As we approach the spring showcase, students who are ready will go off in their own directions on personal projects and Genius Hour projects. The next showcase is on the calendar for April 27. It will be here before we know it.

Sincerely,
Dr. Mary Beth Cunat
Principal – Spectrum Progressive School of Rockford
