Welcome Letter!

I am sharing our Welcome Letter here in case you have not seen it. It includes information about choosing and sharing something local to help us discuss what the term “grassroots” means. Please send items in anytime over the next two weeks. I kicked it off on Wednesday by sharing something from my favorite local store, Van Laars Market! Click on the link below to view!

Learning about goats and weaving in Art class through the story “Goat in the Rug!”

Cooperative, creative, and authentic learning, as well as getting to know new friends and catch up with old friends!

Grassroots Discussion & Brainstorming!

I brought in an apple from Van Laars Market (which we of course taste-tested!) and the kids started brainstorming other businesses unique to Rockford. Please help your students think of local favorites and how local businesses are special and beneficial to the communities they serve.

Some ideas we touched on today included: local produce being fresher, more tasteful and nutritious, and requiring less transportation.

Send in a picture or an item from your local favorites that your student can talk about and share with the class over the next few weeks!

Special Visitor!

Early Elementary had a special out-of-state visitor via FaceTime today! Chelsey was raised in Rockford and currently resides in South Dakota. We learned how deaf people use technology to communicate. She also taught everyone how to do the “deaf clap” She had such a great time seeing everyone’s signs!

Grassroots Sharing!

Alex G. brought in ground cherries from the Edgebrook Farmer’s Market for his Grassroots sharing today! We all got to try something new (they were delicious) and he was sporting his 815 Rockford Art Deli shirt to boot!

We hope you've enjoyed this Week 1 look inside the classroom! We'll have plenty more engaged learning and exciting activities for you next week from Early Elementary!
