Thinking, Creating, Reflecting: Impacting the Future

Letter from the Principal: November 17, 2023

Dear Spectrum Family and Friends,

This morning (Thursday), I had that sublime satisfaction of experiencing students engaged in self-directed and at times adult-supported learning on their Interest Group projects. Kids were helping each other, working on different kinds of presentations and products, making decisions, and accessing different kinds of resources. I was working hard to support their thinking, planning, and execution, provide resources, and keep them on task by asking them what they were working on and what they were going to do next.

If your boss asks you for more or for a re-do or for a better explanation, how do you feel? Kids feel that way too when we try to challenge and stretch them. It is hard work.

Many of you were able to come see the fruits of their learning and labor at the showcase Thursday night. Interest Groups are one of the best and most valued instructional approaches at Spectrum, and we really want the children to feel listened to and noticed for their work.

Principal – Spectrum Progressive School of Rockford
