Thinking, Creating, Reflecting: Impacting the Future

Letter from the Principal: October 27, 2023

Dear Spectrum Family and Friends,

It is Thursday afternoon as I write. I am sitting here after school with three of my IE students who can’t seem to get enough of Book Creator, an app that allows them to build pages of images, texts, and audio with ease. My class spent time today reflecting on their learning during our water/river unit. I had a great time with a new math game reinforcing place value by moving dinosaur figures.

It isn’t surprising to me that the teaching side of my work at Spectrum this year feels more compelling than the admin side. I knew it would. To be honest, it does surprise me that I can squeeze a lot of admin work into an hour or two before school, then during snack, lunch recess, art, music, and Spanish!

I was happy to report to the Board last night that, although our enrollment numbers are lower than we had hoped, we are still building. I was happy to report that the tone, culture, and feeling of the classrooms are all so positive and productive. Students are happy to be here. They are learning. Staff is happy to be here and working really well with each other.

During our Family Math Night on Wednesday, I discussed the value of increased parent involvement. We provided a brief questionnaire to better understand how we can enhance our collaboration. The Board, Marci, and I are very optimistic about the bright future of our school, and we warmly encourage parents to play a significant role in shaping it. Opportunities for community outreach, fostering a strong sense of community, and fundraising are all areas where we can make improvements and raise awareness about our school. This wonderful little school consistently achieves remarkable things with children each and every day, and we’re excited to share all that it has to offer. Let others know!
